Directions for using the vi editor:

  1. Login to your servers console via the https://springfield.wcu.edu web console.
  2. Type vi /var/www/html/index.html and press Enter to open the file in vi.
  3. Press i to switch to insert mode. This will allow you to start editing the file.
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the text you want to change.
  5. Type the new text to replace the existing text.
  6. Once you are done editing, press Esc to exit insert mode and return to command mode.
  7. To save the changes and exit vi, type :wq and then press Enter.
  8. If you want to exit without saving changes, type :q! and press Enter.
